Why is it a great idea to have a Photobooth at your Wedding? Good question!..
I want to give you just a few reasons why having a photobooth will be the icing on the wedding cake!
Seriously though, it is so good to entertain everyone at your wedding. The young and the old will enjoy a good photo session and trust me when I say, I have seen some crazy old cats get down and dirty in the booth over the years.
Having a photo booth will not only get the oldies out of their seats, but they will also be getting involved with the Gen Zers. And it’s so good to get more photos of all the family together. Especially those regrettable photos that will be stuck on your fridge for years!
Having a photobooth that prints out the images straight away, means your guests can take home a little keepsake from the wedding day. It’s always cool seeing photos stuck on the fridge for years to come and most guests don’t know it at the time, but they will actually have the chance to download the digital copy after the wedding as well. Which means sometimes they wish they kept it ‘G’ rated when taking the photos! Oops.
Another great reason to have a photobooth at your wedding is, it can add to the overall style of your reception styling! When we created Heartbreak Hotel, it was so important for us to have the most stylish photobooth set up in town. Every small detail has been thought of and you won’t see us dragging out an ugly table with a black tablecloth or $2 props for the junk store!
We wanted the booth to be on-trend, look incredible and actually add style to any wedding. We know how much effort goes into creating a beautiful reception and we don’t think that style should be compromised because of the photo booth.
We all love themes and when it comes to weddings, there is really no exceptions. Trust me when I say, I have seen a lot of RAD themes over the years. Sometimes it’s a more subtle theme, like “black tie & cocktail” or “complete vegan wedding”. Whatever your theme is, we can incorporate it into the booth in so many ways, including the backdrop, the print designs, the props and even the photobooth’s interface.
Having a killer set of photos of your nearest and dearest is worth it’s weight in gold. Especially when you get your guests to create you a guestbook at the wedding and they stick in their own fav photos and write you a little message. Guestbooks are seriously the best! And you won’t find any better than ours. We get ’em manufactured in the USA using nothing but the finest materials. That way you know it will actually last and of course, look good on your bookshelf!
That’s it! My five reasons why I think you need a photobooth at your wedding! If you have any suggestions for more reasons why you would have a photobooth at your wedding, please let us know in the comments!

We were lucky enough to DJ at a special event at the Wool Mill in Brunswick. It was the first time we got to use and show off our custom made, wooden DJ table and it looked incredible. We are definitely stepping up the game in the DJ scene for weddings in Melbourne and it’s so cool to see the vision come to life.
We believe a wedding DJ is not just about the killer tunes they play, it really needs to work with the styling of your wedding reception and bring something to the table. We wanted our DJ to add style to your wedding. No more trestle tables with black tablecloths with cords running everywhere. Not at Heartbreak Hotel! We want STYLE and lots of it.
It’s so cool that our DJ table works with so many different style weddings as well. Just look at these images below and see how well we fit right in with not only the venue, but the theme of the event.
We got to work alongside so many of our friends that are on our ‘FRIENDS‘ page and the whole venue looked the part. That is what happens when you team up with the best of the best that Melbourne has to offer.
The styling was done by Ruffles and Bells and we LOVE these guys. Every time we work with them, the events just keep getting next level. And we are lucky we have more events with them in the near future!

We love Rupert on Rupert and it is definitely our favourite wedding venue in Melbourne. Tricia & Hieu had an extra special wedding and we were so lucky to be part of it. No detail was overlooked and we got to work with many of our favourite vendors in the industry, including wedding photographer Cassandra from Blossom Daisy Creative. She was so kind as to forward some amazing images on to us and now we get to share them with you!
The venue itself never needs much, it speaks for itself with the styling and details in each room, but this couple really worked with what was really there and just gave it the little extra WOW factor. The florals were out of this world, wrapping around the room and adding so much colour.
Pictured above in the far right corner, is our Gold sign we have for hire. We designed the seating chart and matched the wedding perfectly. We have two different sizes available and our in-house designer is on hand to make something AMAZING!
We chose the Gold Mermaid backdrop for this wedding because it really worked well with their theme of extra colour and gold accents throughout the venue. It also just looks great in photos!
And we had Jai as the booth attendant, also matching the wedding with his brightly floral tie.
We always love working with Tobi Tobi. You will find them on our “friends” page because they are just that good. Nothing is better than live music at a wedding! (Except for our photo-booth of course 😉
We had our friend Em Jensen do a lookbook style shoot with our props. I guess when we first started the photo-booth, we didn’t know much about them, but we did know that there were so many tacky photo-booths out there with terrible props and we didn’t want that for us. We are always looking long and hard to find props that are good enough to actually wear and make you look DAMN GOOD! Not just a paper moustache on a stick, but real vintage and eclectic pieces found from all corners of the globe. We are always changing and adding different pieces as we go so there is always a good selection for young and old.
The Photobooth Props seriously make the whole photobooth experience and it’s so important to LOVE the props! Espeically because they will be in your images for ever. We are serious about this stuff and want you to look as good as you can on your wedding day, with a hint of silliness of course.
These are just a few pieces we handed over to Em for the shoot and she made some magic. Check ’em out…

Panama Dining Room, one of our favourite wedding venues in Melbourne was where Sara & Matthew celebrated their wedding day. Such a beautiful old building, looking over Smith Street in Collingwood, full of character and old world charm, perfect for Heartbreak Hotel Photo Booth!
Sara & Matthew got a guest book from us as well and it looked incredible when it was full of nice comments and the photo strips designed by Leelou.
Here are a few sneaky pics by our booth attendant Morgan!

There’s something so incredibly joyous about confetti, the colour, the action, the glitter, the fact that its raining tiny little rainbows of happiness over you. Its no wonder people choose it as a way to celebrate love. We’ve put together a confetti guide along with some of our most loved confetti photos. Here’s our top 10 list of what to think about when you’re planning to make it rain confetti glory at your wedding including some great places to buy confetti in Melbourne.
There are so many great types of confetti to choose from. One tip to make things easier is to pick one that is going to work with your wedding theme. If you’re going glam try silver or gold. Having a modern wedding? Look at just white or white mixed with one other colour, like one that you have used in your florals or invites. Going boho or country? Mix up the sizes and shapes of confetti to keep it textured and loose. If you’re having a photo booth, find confetti that both compliments but stands out from your photo booth backdrop. For example, if you have a red velvet backdrop, gold glitter is a perfect partner. So fancy!
There are many ways to get your bundles of confetti up into the air. The most traditional is having your friends and family at the wedding throw handfuls of loose confetti over you as you walk back down the aisle after your ceremony, in your photo booth or during your portraits. A hot tip here is to get people throwing upwards rather than straight at your face…Traditional and simple is always great but boy have things have moved onward and upward in recent times. There is now hand held cannons that go off with a burst and shower confetti high and wide and also compressor cannons that can go off on the dance floor to make sure everyone realises they’ve arrived to the party. Confetti can be a great addition to a Photo Booth.
This one often gets overlooked so we thought we’d make a point of it in our confetti guide. Where is the best place to throw confetti at your wedding? There are a few things to think about, make sure it’s out of the rain, soggy confetti aint no fun for anyone. Be sure to have a windbreak or be out of the wind so your confetti doesn’t just fly away into the neighbouring property. On that note, it’s important that the confetti isn’t going to have an impact on the surrounding environment or people, go biodegradable or natural all the way.
Use the right type of confetti in the right place. If you’re throwing it around outside, it’s best to look into biodegradable options or use flower petals. Try and keep to areas where you’re not leaving a mess and that are easy to clean up.
Safety first kids! Putting together a confetti guide means we know all about responsible confetti time so here are a few safety tips from us to you. Confetti on hard dance floors can be slippery so be wary. Cannons should never be fired close to people or at people, there’s also funny youtube clips of people firing them upside down but that’s also really not ideal, maybe choose the responsible people for firing duties. Confetti can also have pieces small enough to be a choking hazard so be aware of the size and type you are getting if you are going to have small people at your wedding.
It’s always a must to get permission from your venue and ask them if they have a preference for the type of confetti to use. Many churches have a no confetti policy as it leaves a mess in the grounds so it’s best to check with everyone.
The world shines a little brighter when confetti is involved. There are so many ways to have fun with it, here are a few of our favourites: On the dance floor, try and get people to not lose their brains with joy when confetti cannons are matching their dance moves. In the photo booth, it is hands down the most fun prop and adds magic and endless glamour to your photos. Here’s a few taken on location with Heartbreak Photo Booth here in Melbourne.
Getting your guests to shower you in confetti as you finish or exit the ceremony involves huge amounts of joy for everyone involved. It takes a little planning and will depend on your ceremony venue.
For an outside wedding you have a little more freedom, ask a friend to hand out confetti or petals while you are signing your marriage certificate. Once you have been announced as officially married, walk down the aisle to handfuls of fun raining down on you.
If you’re getting married in a sweet chapel, walk to the end of the aisle and hug your guests. As they head outside they can grab handfuls of confetti and make a guard of honour and wait for you to exit the chapel. Burst out into your waiting family and friends and be showered in love. This style works especially well for photos.
Remind people to throw up not directly at you… The more hang time the better the photos.
It all depends on what you want to do with it so after you have thought about all the other points in this article you’re ready to do your research.
Hand Held confetti canons cost around $30 AUD each and you will need at least two to create an even rain of confetti goodness.
To hire a confetti canon can be from anywhere between $150 – $300 AUD. There are different sizes for different applications. You can get bigger, stronger ones for stages and dance floors and smaller ones for ceremony exits.
You can also buy bags of handheld confetti or petals to hand out to guests to use. This option is sometimes cheaper and more fun because it gets your guests involved.
So there you have everything you need to know in this handy confetti guide. Go forth and be the confetti this world needs.
We started off the year with our first wedding expo. Found With Love was held at a new wedding venue called The Line in Melbourne and brought all the best vendors in the wedding industry together under one roof.
Sarah was there to meet everyone and bring the fun vibes to the booth. We had a custom backdrop made by our favourites Pickawall and signage by Sketch & Etch and our new guest books on display.
Can’t wait to do it all again next year!!!
Last weekend we teamed up with the talented team at Ruffles & Bells styling to create something amazing for Carrie & Harvey’s stunning wedding at Stones of the Yarra Valley. The wedding featured a custom backdrop with florals by Sassafras and calligraphy by Fox and Hart. With the beautiful design and the Yarra Valley in the backdrop, it was the perfect night for the booth to be stationed outside!
Heartbreak Hotel now offers 8″ by 12″ hard-cover guestbooks. The two standard colours are black cloth and dirty pink velvet. Both come with pink foiling on the first page which says “Stick a photo and share a story”. We can also do fully customised albums to match your wedding or event. Get in touch to find out more.
